Neil Duff wins Coleraine Darts Open 2019

Neil Duff

Ballyclare’s Neil Duff (DeadShot) won the Coleraine Open last Saturday at the Coleraine FC Social Club, beating Kyle McKinstry 6-4 in a hotly contested final.

The final was a very close game and could have went either way, but at 4-4 Kyle McKinstry hit a 180 to try and get ahead, but Neil showed his class and replied with a 180 straight after, and closed out the leg. Then finished off the last leg in style to win 6-4.

Kyle was defending his trophy he won last year against Chris Gilliland but Neil Duff just had too much for Kyle this time around.

Afterwards Neil said:

“That was a tough game and I had to dig deep, but I was not going to be bullied in that game.”

The last 8 of the tournament were as follows:

Neil Duff beat Gavin Carlin
Kyle McKinstry
beat Mervyn McKeeman
Mark Currans
beat Nigel Cahoon
Geoff Matthews
beat Philip Moffit

Last 4 of the tournament were as follows:

Neil Duff beat Mark Currans 5-4 (Neil was 4-0 up and Mark came back to a deciding leg!)
Kyle McKinstry beat Geoff Matthews 5-0 (straight forward win for Kyle as Geoff had used all his bullets in squeezing past Philip Moffit.)

Other notable players in the tournament were Mervyn Greer, Kevin Burness, William B McKendry, Davy Glenn, James Walker, Alan Boyd, Hedgie McKendry, Johnny Cree, Charlie Moore, Adam Moore, Carter Guiney, Jason Lockhart, Travis Baur, Dermot McGuinness, Alan Brown, Jukie Watt, Tony Rimmer, Nigel Peden, Rodney Kane, Gary Watton, Ben Kirkpatrick, Andrew Allen, Barry Copeland and Ballymena men, Richard Rainey, Josh Rock, Ian Rainey and Justin Cushenan – among others. Ladies included Kelly Devlin, Julie Hunter, Lauren Conn and Betty Barr.

The event organised by Leon Crawford and Aaron McKendry was a success again and ran superbly. Thanks to Stephen Pinkerton for helping organise the draw and the bar staff at the Coleraine FC Social Club for great service all day.
