Gurney draws in Liverpool

James Wade managed to come away from Liverpool with a draw against Northern Irelands Daryl Gurney.

Englands James Wade came from 4-2 down to snatch a draw. He found a way to draw level at 4-4 with ‘Superchin’ and nearly even got the win.

Wade was 14 points less in the averages than Gurney on 90 versus 104 but it’s the clutch finishing from Wade that makes him such a dangerous player.

The 104 average from Gurney included six 180’s but he couldn’t find the winning double.

Gurney went 4-2 up but Wade came back to 5-4 behind.

Wade levelled it up at 5-5 and could have stormed to the win having then gone 6-5 up, but Gurney got the next to make it 6-6.

Wade made sure of a point in the next leg, but Gurney wasn’t going to let it slip away that much and hit a lovely ten darter for the draw.

“I want to get myself into the Play-Offs so it feels like a point lost”, admitted Gurney.

I messed up a few legs and that’s cost me a point.

I was determined to win tonight as James beat me 7-0 the last time we played. A point is better than nothing but there’s four of us on 12 points now so it’s very tight.
