The dreaded double trouble returned for Daryl Gurney last night in Cardiff at the PDC Premier League, as Mensur Suljovic capitalised on so many missed doubles from Gurney to see out a 8-5 win and dent Gurneys playoff hope’s.
Gurney missed nineteen darts at double and as a result The Gentle took advantage to claim a much needed win.
‘Superchin’ started by hitting a 180 but missed three darts at double allowing Suljovic to hold throw.
Gurney levelled it up 1-1 by hitting his favourite double 16 but ‘The Gentle’ continued on by hitting a 100 checkout.
The missed doubles continued for Gurney with over 15 missed darts at double with the scoreline at 3-3. So many missed opportunities here to be well ahead.
Suljovic went into a two leg lead to serve a real blow to Gurney’s ambitions, of winning the match.
From two ahead it was Suljovic’s turn to squander darts at doubles, which allowed Gurney a way back in but Mensur replied with three legs, to assure himself of a point.
Gurney kept it alive at 7-5 but it was too much to come back with the class of Suljovic, and Mensur closed out the last leg for a 8-5 win.
So many missed double for Daryl here, this could have easily the other way around. But because the PDC calendar is so full there is no time to mull over defeats. On to the next one for Gurney and hopefully the doubles go in next time.
