Daryl Gurney fresh from his maiden European Tour win in Hildesheim against Ricky Evans takes to the SSE Arena in Belfast against Rob Cross in the PDC Premier League tonight.
It is a homecoming for Daryl who has been in great form in the Premier League over the last couple of weeks winning in Rotterdam and shooting up the table in the process. A win here and he will solidify himself into the top 4 places – where he needs to be, to qualify for the finals in London.
There are plenty of arrows before then though. this game versus Rob Cross is a difficult one for Gurney. Rob Cross has been consistent in the Premier League with high scoring and was at the top of the league, before MVG knocked him off. Gurney beat Rob Cross here in Belfast last year, but Cross wasnt the same last year as he is this year. Cross is a danger in my opinion – but it depends on the first 3 legs – if Daryl can steady the ship and get ahead I think he wins.
This match is first to 8 or a 7-7 draw. I’m predicting a 7-7 draw – as much as I want Gurney to win, a draw isn’t a bad result against someone who is very very consistent.
“I absolutely cannot wait for Thursday night,” said Gurney. “I was already over the moon to be returning to Belfast and to win my first European Tour event just a few days before it is the perfect start.
“Last year in Belfast was one of the most magical experiences of my life, so to get the chance to do it again is a dream come true. I know the place will be absolutely buzzing again.
“I’ll be in the mode where I don’t want to be beaten but to be the best, you’ve got to beat the best and I’ll be trying my damnedest.
“I’m not as consistently good as Rob, Michael van Gerwen or James Wade but I’m looking to get into the top four.”
