Northern Ireland’s Daryl Gurney is due to take on the dutch darting super star and current PDC World Champion and Premier League Champion Michael van Gerwen on Thursday in Manchester, England.
Daryl Gurney is no stranger to playing MVG and has some good wins against MVG in his locker to call back on. He has already beaten Michael van Gerwen in the Premier League this year and at the end of last year famously beat the green machine in the final of the Players Championship.
Gurney had this to say this week in advance of their Premier League clash:
“When you play Michael it’s an easy game to work out mentally because you know unless you’re playing your ‘A+ game’ then you’re going to lose, so I’ll go up there feeling relaxed,” said Gurney.
“Michael knows I can beat him and I’m sure he’s wary of that, but all he wants to do is smash up every dart player there is.
“Last Thursday against Peter was definitely an important win for me. I knew that a draw wouldn’t have been good enough and thankfully I got the two points.
“Unless I beat Gerwyn Price, Michael Smith and get at least a draw against Van Gerwen then I don’t think I’ll qualify for the Play-Offs.
It’s all to play for for Daryl Gurney. He knows what he has to do, and this match is the first stepping stone. A draw would be good, a win would be fantastic. Good luck SuperChin!
