Celtic Challenge NI Team Announced

Celtic Challenge 2019

Celtic Challenge 2019

The Northern Ireland Team’s (Men’s & Ladies) to take part in the Celtic Challenge 2019 in Wales on the 23rd-24th March has been selected. There are some returning names and two players making their debuts – Kevin Magill and Elaine Moran. Team NI are the defending champions and look to defend their title with impressive looking sides – against the Wales and Scotland teams.

Ladies: The ladies will be leaning on the International experience of Kayleigh, Jackie and Helen coupled with the fresh enthusiasm from Yvonne, Anna and the debuting Elaine Moran. Team manager Lorraine Brandon has a good side here, who should be steady under pressure.

Mens: New men’s team manager Gareth Chambers has some of the best throwers in Northern Ireland available to him in this selection. Some very experienced International players in this panel. No one in NI darts really needs to be introduced to Neil Duff, Davy Glenn, Philip Carson, Gary Elliott, Dermott McGuinness, Chris Gilliland and Kyle McKinstry. All have picked up multiple wins in local tournaments and NIDO competitions over the years – most even playing in the World Masters and/or BDO Worlds. Paul Mcdonald makes a welcome return to the International panel – Paul has the quality and consistency required at this level and its great to see him back. The senior player in the team is Roy Baillie – who just goes to show that quality and consistency wins the race – he has been in the top 10 averages all year playing in the first division for Area 4b – tip my hat to him he has been great this year and deserves his place. Alan Mcknight and Rodney Kane are only starting into their International careers – but have been steady in the high averages all year – Rodney moved from Area 1 to Area 4b to get to a higher standard and it has worked out for him. Alan playing in the Area 9 team with Kyle has dragged his standard up too. Area 2b’s shining light this year has been Kevin Magill who has stepped up to the plate and showed 2b the way – he has been playing excellently of late and deserves his debut here at the Celtic Challenge.

Team Manager – Gareth Chambers

To be held on 23rd – 24th March 2019 at the Penydarren Social Club. Tramroad Lane, Merthyr Tydfil, CF47 9BZ.

Good luck to all that are travelling! Team Northern Ireland have great teams here and we know they will do their best. Keep them straight!
